I honestly couldn’t believe it when I got on the scale this morning and it showed I gained 3 pounds from last week. It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve actually cried after a weigh in. Last week I had a big loss so it is normal that the following week I gain a little but I honestly thought I would lose again this week or in the least stay the same. Usually if I’m going to gain I have a hunch before hand so I’m a little bit prepared when I get on the scale in the morning.
I worked out 4 times (and really pushed myself) and was super careful with my food all week long and just felt like I did so well. I even snuck on the scale Saturday morning and was still the same number as what I was last Tuesday so for it to jump up 3 pounds in 3 days was just really shocking. I felt so good after trying on that dress while shopping and now I just feel like crap.
I know it’s not about the numbers. I know it’s about my health and I know that I’ve done really well so far and this is nothing to get upset about but I just can’t help to feel really disappointed.

Do hang in there. The most important thing is that you are going in the right direction. Perhaps you are gaining muscles and they do weigh more. The big line is that you are losing weight (overall) and gaining some (sometimes). I know how that is, hope that you can covert your disappointment into motivation for the coming time.

Maybe it's muscle weight. And don't let a few pounds get you down. You've done so well, your body is just adjusting.

Just found your blog from your siggie on the nest. I've read the whole thing and you are inspirational!
Anyway, I know people say it's unhealthy to weight every day. But if you unofficially weigh (as in don't record it) everyday, then there won't be any big jumps or drops in your weight. You might develop a more realistic view of your weightloss. I bet if you weigh on Wednesday after a gain on Tuesday you'll actually find a loss (like the day after your 3 lb gain, you'd find a 1 lb loss.) You don't lose 6 lbs over night, that was spread through the week...

I heard about your blog from the nest and I have poured over it in two days. I have laughed and literally cried a couple of times. I have also decided to start a "life make-over" but haven't been able to be as vocal about it as you. usually when i do and people cheer me on I take that as them not accepting me and give up! I know... totally stubborn. Anyways, I went to the gym last night and I am going to my third pilates class in an hour. Perhaps it sounds cheesey (and now that I've prefaced that I'm sure of it) but on those days that you weigh in and are disappointed... maybe you could think about all of the women that read your blog and go to the gym, or take up jalking. You're literally not doing this alone. You're definately not letting anyone down.
I can understand your disappointment. But, you are doing so well!!! You have dropped an amazing amount of weight. Just remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. You'll be a "loser" this week-I'll put money on it!
i was going to post the same sort of thing that the second anonymous said, weight flutuates throughout the day and over a few days, the only way to really know what is going on is to weigh yourself everyday at the same time.
You say that you usually see a gain after a big loss, probably what happens is the big loss comes because you happen to weigh yourself at a extra lighter moment, when the real average value is a bit higher and then the next week it isnt a lighter moment so you see a larger number that is still probably less than what your average was from the week before. so you shouldn't beat yourself up about it.
(does that make any sense?)
if you really want to get scientific about it, you could plot your weight on a graph and fit a line to it, that would show your average loss over time.
anyway, all that matters is that you are loosing on the whole! keep up the good work :)
