Weight Loss is flipping me the bird

So after a fantastic week of eating well, exercising on my self-proclaimed schedule, drinking loads of water, making right choices and just over all feeling fantastical about my abilities I stepped on my scale for my first official "here I am again" weigh-in and *drrruuummm rolllllll pleeeeeeaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee***

I gained. WTF @$!#@%@$!$

My scale flipped me the weight loss bird.

Minutes later good ole Aunt Flo knocked on the door.

I flipped her the bird.

So after all the bird flipping that went on in my house on a Monday morning within 10 minutes of my feet hitting the floor, I had a little cry, got a little pep talk from my husband and decided "what the hell, I know in another week the numbers will change because I've been doing this for AGES".

And it's true. In all of the time that I have been losing weight and working at this there has been one constant. The week that I am blessed with my period I always weight more, anywhere from 2-4 pounds more, than I will the following week. Gotta love water retention and bloating. Thanks Mommy Nature. Here's a bird for you.

So I went from 132.4 kilos (291.28 pounds) to 132.9 (292.38 lbs) so +1.1 lb.
Now that it's sunk in and I've had time to be rational about it (you know, AFTER I've had a cup of freaking coffee) I'm kind of excited to see what next week will bring. I know by next Monday that my bloating will be gone, so there's some weight, and in addition, I'll have all of the extra work that I've put into it this week, so I'm looking forward to something positive.

And if it's not, I've got a few more birds I can hand out along with this sweet message for those extra pounds...

I AIN'T QUITTING SO YOU CAN HANG OUT AS LONG AS YOU WANT BUT NO MATTER WHAT, I WILL BEAT YOU!!!

I hope you all are having healthy, successful weeks!

Oh, Aunt Flo. She's so annoying. But you know what's great? Most of the time, the week after she comes and goes, the scale shows some major love!

Oh Gosh, Thanks for commenting on my blog so I could find yours. Despite your gain, I had to laugh. I have been here so many times. Just never thought to flip the scale the bird...or aunt FLo....hilarious writing my new friend!

Ugh, I hate that one week of the month where I'm bloated & feel like I weight a zillion pounds! At least we know that in a week, things will be back to normal! Perseverance will beat this thing!

(I'm a follower now too! I had you in my google reader, but never officially "followed"!)

I am new to your blog so forgive me if I am already giving a fat loss tip that you already know. Are you familiar with intermittent fasting for weight loss? I use this approach to stay lean all year long, so "weight loss won't be flipping you the bird" ahah. A common problem I have found with people trying to lose weight is that they underestimate how many calories they are actually consuming. I think the best advice right now is to stay off the scale. They are not reliable indicators of true fat loss.

Adam - Thanks for posting and welcome to my blog! I hadn't read about the intermittent fasting approach before but after reading about it I would have to respectfully say it's not something that I would really be into. The health professionals that I am working with would disagree with "fasting" as their approach is more in line with 6 small meals per day to keep your blood sugar in check. Of course you have to make good choices, and much like your approach, if you eat a surplus here, you either prepare for it before hand by eating less or make up for it afterwards by being extra mindful.

to each his own though! I've always said there are a million people out there trying to lose weight and there are twice as many ways to go about it.

You can do it! Don't give up - its worth it just to be able to move easier! I am in my own diet purgatory - so I am feeling your pain!
